Abdul Aziz started working as an early-stage researcher towards the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at the University of Zaragoza, on 19 January 2022 within the Advanced Information Systems Laboratory (IAAA) of the Aragon Institute of Engineering Research (I3A). His research project is about “Technical aspects for inclusiveness across user domains in data portals”. During exploration of his research project, he found that one of the most important aspects of open government data is the feedback mechanism that allows citizens/users to provide input and feedback on the data that is being made available. Feedback mechanisms can be in many different forms, but they all serve the same purpose of allowing citizens to have a say in how government data is used and accessed. Users actively seek Open Data portals that provide them with the data they are interested in. This year he presented a short paper on “Towards a sustainable Open Data Ecosystem: First steps for optimizing findability and user feedback” and a long paper titled as “Analysing User Involvement in Open Government Data Initiatives”. During the learning process of the long paper, he came to know that user involvement is important for the success of Open Data portals. There are many ways to measure user involvement. User involvement can be measured by the number of users, the number of downloads, the number of comments, and the number of likes. User involvement can also be measured by the quality of the data, the usability of the portal, and the satisfaction of the users.

Abdul started his first industrial secondment on 5 September 2022 at 7eData Zaragoza, Spain. His core task is to assess the availability of data products relevant for the agricultural domain with the possibility to reuse data at a reasonable cost. Moreover. the data products to be assessed are data products used (current or potential) in 7eData software products or in products from 7eData competitors. Lastly, to determine the work assessed, FAIR principle is being followed.
